6 Self-Care Rituals Anyone Has Time For
More often than not, those who need the most self-care have the least amount of time for it. This is especially true of parents of young children or those in helping professions—it seems like the more you take care of others, the less energy you have to take care of yourself both physically and mentally. However, self-care does not have to be incredibly time-consuming, nor does it need to be expensive. It can work wonders to dedicate just a couple of minutes to yourself, and in many cases, it doesn’t have to cost anything at all.
Take a Bath
If you’re short on time to unwind after a long day, taking a bath is a great way to do so and get clean at the same time. Many people find bathing to be very meditative and a positive way to unplug from distractions. Leave your phone in another room and forget about it for a while. Looking to take a bath to the next level? Consider adding essential oils to make this a true aromatherapy experience.
Or, Take a Forest Bath
If staying still in a hot tub of water isn’t your thing, consider the ancient Japanese art of forest bathing, which offers the same meditative benefits. The premise is simple: go into the forest and embrace nature, without an agenda, schedule, and certainly without technology. Those who practice forest bathing do so for a boost to their physical as well as emotional well-being.
Steep in the Goodness
It only takes about ten minutes a day, but creating a routine where you mindfully make tea and sit down to drink it can feel like you have a ritual to bond with yourself. Take in the aroma, and drink it slowly. Let yourself enjoy it.
Write in a Gratitude Journal
Sometimes we move at such a fast pace, we do not take the time to sit back and think of all of the good things in our life. Writing in a gratitude journal is a great way to count your blessings and remind yourself how beautiful life can be.
Do a Little Downward Dog
While yoga may have once seemed inaccessible to some, there’s been a recent movement touting its beneficial nature to anyone and everyone. Joining a studio can be costly and time-consuming, but busy people can just as easily practice yoga at home with a video or audio recording guiding them. Even with the most jam-packed schedule, you can usually find ten minutes after waking or before bed to fit in a brief yoga practice.
Stay Hydrated
Chances are, you aren’t drinking enough water. You can’t feel your best if you’re suffering the effects of dehydration, even if it’s mild. Remembering to drink a glass of water in the morning, and carry a large water bottle around with you on the go. Taking the time to refill your water bottle throughout the day is a good way to remind yourself that your health is a priority.
