Low Tox Living--What is It?

Every morning, the average American woman covers her body in 168 chemicals. They’re in her shampoo, her moisturizer, her eyeshadow, and more.

As she goes through her day, she’s exposed to thousands of chemicals, from air pollution to her plastic water bottle to the non-stick cookware she uses to make dinner!

This all adds up to one thing: a buildup of toxins that’s not healthy for our bodies – or our planet. While the products we use each day make our lives a little easier, the damage they do is undeniable. That’s why so many people are joining the “low tox” movement and ditching those nasty chemicals for good.

Are you tired of chemicals that are seemingly everywhere?

What is Low Tox Living?

Low tox living is exactly what it sounds like – living your life with as few toxins as possible. The term was popularized by the 2018 book Low Tox Life by Alexx Stewart, but the idea existed long before. People who embrace the low tox lifestyle try to make informed choices about the products they buy, so they can make themselves and the planet as clean and healthy as possible.

Admittedly, low tox living isn’t easy. It might mean giving up your favorite makeup products or spending hour researching ingredients in your favorite deodorant or skin cream. However, if you manage to make just a few low tox choices, you’ll find that you feel much better – in fact, the process could change your life!

Tips to Start Living Low Tox

If you want to give low tox a try, but you don’t know where to start (or you’re not ready to give up your favorite mascara), don’t worry. Low tox living doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s not about throwing out EVERYTHING you used to use; it’s about making small, incremental changes that can help you be healthier. Here are a few examples:

●       Swap out your Teflon pans for cast iron. They don’t contain the same chemicals and non-stick pans, and they last for YEARS.

●       Skip the scented candles and air fresheners and open your windows instead. You don't need to breathe in toxins to smell the roses!

●       Take off your shoes when you come inside to avoid tracking toxins through your house (it saves time on vacuuming, too!).

●       Eat organic ingredients as often as you can and MEAL PREP, MEAL PREP, MEAL PREP. Life gets pretty busy, and you don't want to find yourself hungry on a Wednesday afternoon without any options but processed snacks or fast food (ick).
